Boy's Sports Room Fast, Furious and Frugal Makeover

As your resident Prop Maker, I have to share with you my joy when a plan comes together.  I was challenged by a friend to take over her blog's $300.00 makeover for her son's room.  With 72 hours notice and thankfully quick drying paint, I'm proud to say "Mission accomplished"!

$300.00 bucks baby, $300.00 bucks!  Whew!

I have detailed information on this whirlwind presto-chango over on my EmbellishmentsKids blog, if you'd like to see some more pictures.

Now, all that's left to do is clean up 72 hours of mess in the studio.  Which looks like a months worth....yikes.   Do I have any volunteers to help, I'll buy lunch?

Ciao for now!

Tangerine Tango, 2012 Color of the Year

Color has quite an impact on emotions and when used properly will instill joy and personality in our lives.

As artists and designers, Aaron and I work with color palettes every day. We select color schemes for our artwork based upon design trends and cues from the home and fashion worlds.  We guide our kid-interior design clients in selecting colors for their spaces based upon the purposes of the room and the desired mood, anywhere from serene to energetic.  Along the way,we are ensuring that each color selected coordinates for a cohesive design.

As designers, with our fingers on the pulse of color trends, we eagerly await the announcement of the "Color of the Year" from the world's color authority, the Pantone Institute.

(Drum roll, please...) This year's Pantone Color of the Year is Tangerine Tango!

According to Pantone:

The 2011 color of the year, PANTONE 18-2120 Honeysuckle, encouraged us to face everyday troubles with verve and vigor. Tangerine Tango, a spirited reddish orange, continues to provide the energy boost we need to recharge and move forward.

“Sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.”

Being the "Kidstylists" that we are, we were delighted that such a vibrant, happy and kid friendly color was selected. We've put together a mood board of our favorite orange hued baby and kid products.

We also asked some of our favorite industry designers to weigh in on this beautiful hue.....

Katy Mimari, creator of Caden Lane, has made her mark in the children's industry with her whimsical line of nursery bedding and accessories. Katy's products and design expertise have been sought after by numerous celebrities over the years.

“It’s about time orange is getting some recognition! I’ve loved the color orange in nursery design for a long time, so much – that we added it to our Boutique Collection last year! It’s such a multi-functional color, working with blues, browns, and even pink – the color compliments any design, and adds a bit of funkiness to the mix. But don’t go overboard… orange is the kind of color you accent with in bold pops of color!”

Susie Fougerousse is not only the founder of one of the top children's boutiques in the country, Rosenberry Rooms - but she is also a busy mother of five children ranging from 14 years to 9 months old.
"Hearing that Tangerine Tango was chosen as the 2012 color of the year is as exciting as winning the lottery for an orange obsessed girl like me (well, almost). I have at times painted large portions of my house in this color and love to wear it any chance I get.  Thank you Pantone!   Check out some of my favorite tangerine products at ..."

Baby industry expert and Marvelous Mom, Mary Bauer and her husband, Stephen created Bratt Decor, a stunning line of baby cribs and nursery furniture that can be found in dozens of celebrity nurseries.
According to Mary, "It's the year of Tangerine Tango!  Color reflects and creates mood.  The mood of late has  been cautious, careful and considered.  This year, the great big wide world is in need some fun, some risks, and some color.  Enter, Tangerine Tango."

Jaana Moisio is quite the overachiever! Not only is she the owner of the devine luxury kids boutique, Palm Beach Tots, but she is a lawyer, entrepreneur, and busy mother of two little girls! What does she think about Tangerine Tango?

"I love this color because it combines the energy of red and the happiness of yellow.   It reminds me of  joy and is a great color for kids of all age.  I’d do a kids play room or a teen hang out space using this gender neautral color.   An accent wall in tangerine, pops of the same color in a few pieces of furniture and of course in the art.   Imagine Sherri Blum’s mod owl art with this kids furniture for a young children’s play room !"

(Aw, shucks...thanks for the plug, Jaana!)

Will you use this color in your home? Would you wear Tangerine Tango? What do you think, is it fruit-astic or does it leave a sour taste in your mouth?  Sound off!
